Philadelphia Police Track and Quickly Recover Stolen Honda Civic on Busy City Streets

On the morning of Monday, January 9, 2012, the owner of a 2008 Honda Civic contacted the Philadelphia Police Department to report that the vehicle had been stolen from the Eastern Section of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Civic’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Civic and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
One hour later, a Philadelphia Police Highway Patrol Officer received the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Civic on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the computer cues, the officer cautiously tracked the signal through the crowded streets of Center City Philadelphia, to the area of Camac and Locust Streets, where he located the parked Civic. The officers cautiously approached the stolen Civic and determined that the vehicle was unoccupied.
The Civic was placed under police guard and the owner was contacted. The owner of the vehicle quickly arrived at the scene and took possession of the undamaged vehicle.
