Toyota Camry Stolen and Recovered in Minutes in Sacramento on New Year's Day

On New Year’s Eve — December 31, 2011– the owner of a 2007 Toyota Camry parked the vehicle in his drieveway and went inside his home. When he went outside the following afternoon, he discovered the Toyota missing, and immediately contacted the Sacramento Police Department to report the theft.
Sacramento Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Less than 20 minutes later, officers with the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department began to receive the silent signal from the stolen Toyota on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. Following the computer cues and tracking signal, within minutes, the officers located the vehicle parked in a motel parking lot near I-80 and Richards Boulevard. The suspects had removed the license plates and parked it on the back side of the motel.
Police recovered the undamaged Toyota and stored it until it could be released to the owner.
