GMC Yukon Stolen and Recovered in Minutes in Los Angeles

On the morning of January 2, 2012, the owner of a 2005 GMC Yukon contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Century Station to report the vehicle stolen.

LASD officers filed a stolen vehicle report and had information about the stolen Yukon entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Yukon and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.  

Within minutes of the LoJack activation, LASD Century deputies picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Yukon on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the computer cues, the deputies tracked the signal to the 7000 block of Makee Street in the city of Compton. There, they located the stolen Yukon, parked and unoccupied with no damage. Police recovered the Yukon, contacted the owner, and released the vehicle to the owner at the scene.
