The owner of a 2013 BMW 328i didn’t notice that she had left her keys inside the car- but someone else did, and then drove away in it. The victim was grateful that she had the LoJack® system installed when she purchased the vehicle, because, with LoJack’s help, local police recovered it in less than 30 minutes after activation.

On April 27th, 2014, the BMW’s owner reported the crime to police. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the 328i, which was installed at Crevier BMW in Santa Ana, CA.

Less than a half hour later, police officers picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers requested assistance from their department’s Air Support. Flight crews directed ground units to the BMW, which was traveling in the area of 8th Street and Soto. The officers tracked the car into Huntington Park and performed a traffic stop. Three passengers attempted to escape on foot but were quickly taken into custody. The undamaged 328i was retrieved and soon returned to its happy owner.
