San Diego Ground and Air Units Converge Upon Stolen Saturn SL Minutes After the Theft

On the morning of February 1, 2012, the owner of a 2001 Saturn SL discovered that his vehicle had been stolen and quickly reported the theft to the San Diego Police Department.
After verifying the theft and completing a stolen vehicle report, San Diego Police had the stolen Saturn’s VIN entered into the state and federal crime databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle, without any further action required from owner or police.
Thirty minutes later, San Diego air and ground units began to receive the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Saturn on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the computer cues, the officers recovered the abandoned Saturn SL in the 3082 block of Fairmont Street.
The undamaged Saturn was recovered by police, and the grateful owner was contacted to retrieve the vehicle. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Saturn SL nine years earlier in Monrovia, California.
