LoJack Recovery of Stolen Toyota Corolla in Hayward; Suspect Arrested by Officers and K-9 Unit

On February 2, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Toyota Corolla discovered that his car had been stolen from his home in Hayward, California. The owner called the Hayward Police Department to report the theft.
After verifying the theft, Hayward Police filed a stolen vehicle report and had the Corolla’s VIN entered into the state and federal crime computers.This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Corolla and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Within an hour, Hayward Police Department officers began to pick up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Corolla on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the computer’s cues, the officers quickly tracked the stolen Toyota to South Hayward, where officers attempted to stop the stolen car. The suspect attempted to elude police, but several cruisers from Hayward converged upon the stolen vehicle, the suspect was boxed in. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody by several officers and a K-9 four legged officer. The suspect was arrested for Auto Theft. The undamaged Corolla was recovered, and police contacted the owner with instructions as to where he could reclaim his vehicle.
In total, the recovery took just over an hour and a half.
