A Cadillac Escalade was recently sold by a dealership in California. It wasn’t until after the buyer left that management discovered that fraudulent information had been provided during the purchase. The LoJack® system installed in the SUV helped police recover the car and apprehend the thief in just over three hours after activation.

On January 24th, 2014, the dealership contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Identity Theft Unit to report the crime.  Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Escalade.

A short while later, officers with the Signal Hill PD and the LASD Airship picked up the homing signals from the stolen SUV with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles and helicopter.  The Cadillac was found parked and unoccupied in the lot of a large retailer. After a brief surveillance, a male suspect approached the vehicle and was quickly taken into custody. The Escalade was retrieved and soon returned to the dealership.
