It was just before 5 a.m. on a Sunday morning when this New Jersey resident was carjacked at gunpoint. The victim was unharmed but naturally shaken up, not to mention frustrated that his 2013 Toyota Corolla was gone. He was also glad he had chosen to have the LoJack® system installed when he purchased his vehicle. With LoJack’s help, local law enforcement recovered the Corolla later that same day.

On December 29th, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Elizabeth Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Corolla, which was installed at Route 1 Toyota in Avenel, NJ.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals coming from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer located the Toyota on St Charles Street in Newark where he found it parked and unoccupied. Police retrieved the Corolla and soon returned it to its relieved owner.
