NYPD Recovers Stolen Jeep Liberty with Help from the LoJack® System

It was almost midnight on a Wednesday evening when this Brooklyn, NY resident discovered her Jeep Liberty missing from where she had parked it earlier. Her SUV was not missing for long, thanks to local police, assisted by the LoJack® system, who were able to recover her vehicle the next day.

On November 20^th, 2013, the Jeep’s owner contacted the NYPD 76^th Precinct in Brooklyn to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the NYPD stolen auto computer and the NCIC national crime computer. The LoJack device concealed in the Liberty, which was installed at Grand Prix Jeep/Chrysler/Subaru in Hicksville, NY, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the 76^th precinct picked up the homing signal from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the vehicle to a residential street in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, where it was parked and abandoned. The undamaged Liberty was soon returned to its elated owner.
