When a BMW 325 was stolen one Monday afternoon in Los Angeles, CA, the owner called police right away, knowing that the LoJack® system he had installed when purchasing his car would be activated by police and facilitate a quick recovery- in this case, his 325 was tracked in less than 30 minutes.

On October 21, 2013, the BMW’s owners contacted their local police to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the 325, which was installed at Santa Monica BMW in Santa Monica, CA.

A short time later, air flight officers picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their air unit. The flight officers located the BMW parked in the area of Astoria Street and Eldridge Ave, and alerted ground units. Patrol units responded to the location and observed two suspects entering the stolen vehicle and driving away. Officers conducted a traffic stop, and took both suspects into custody. The 325’s owners were very glad to have their car safely returned to them.
