It’s tough enough to find your vehicle in a crowded mall parking lot when you’re the one who parked it. Imagine how tough it would be of someone else parked it- and didn’t tell you which mall it was at. This is why so many car thieves will temporarily park a stolen car, truck, van or motorcycle in a mall lot- because it’s tough to locate or even to notice- unless the vehicle is protected by the LoJack® system, which sends off a silent signal to lead police to its location no matter where it’s parked. In this case, a stolen Toyota Camry is found in a mall lot in Bakersfield, CA.

On September 28th, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to report the crime. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Camry, which was installed at Hamer Toyota in Mission Hills, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, a deputy from the Kern County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The deputy tracked the Toyota to the vicinity of Niles and Crestmont Avenues in east Bakersfield, and located it parked and abandoned in the lot of a small shopping center. The undamaged Camry was soon returned to its relieved owner.
