A concrete contractor in Mooresville, NC, left a rented 2012 Melroe Bobcat S-175 Skid Steer Loader on a trailer in a supermarket parking lot overnight, figuring it would be safe in that well-lit, open area. Unfortunately, that assumption was incorrect, and, the next morning, both Bobcat and trailer were gone. Luckily, the rental company was smart enough to have the LoJack® system installed on their machine, so local law enforcement could track it down and recover it in less than three hours after activation.

On September 10th, 2013, the contractor called Mooresville Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicles’ information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the loader, which was installed at a major national equipment rental company, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from Mooresville PD received the homing signals from the Bobcat on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The tracked the machine, still loaded on its trailer, to a motel parking lot off I-77. The Skid Steer was recovered and soon returned to the grateful contractor.
