There’s an old saying that states ‘two wrongs don’t make a right’. In this case, however, a wrong is corrected by a right. The ‘wrong’- these Long Beach, CA residents left their Ford Taurus running and unattended in their driveway, making it ‘easy pickings’ for a thief to hop in and drive it away. The ‘right’- they had the LoJack® system installed when purchasing their car- so local law enforcement recovered it in just NINE MINUTES after activation.

On July 6th, 2013, the Ford’s owners contacted the Long Beach Police to report their vehicle had been stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle, which was installed at Bob Wondries Ford in Alhambra, CA.

A very short time later, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were picking up the homing signal from the Taurus on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked and located the vehicle in the area of Spring St and Wilmington Ave where two subjects were seen exiting the vehicle. Both were detained without further incident.  One driver admitted taking the vehicle and had just picked up the passenger. He was taken into custody. The undamaged Taurus was soon returned to its relieved owners.
