It’s almost one a.m. on a Monday morning. Imagine how you would feel if you looked out your window at that time and found your vehicle was gone. That’s how the Oakland, CA resident in this case reacted when he saw his Volkswagen Jetta was not where he had left it. It’s a good thing he had the LoJack® system installed when he bought his VW, so local law enforcement was able to track it down in only 15 minutes after activation.

On July 1st, 2013, the Jetta’s owner contacted Oakland Police. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Jetta, which was installed at Dirito Brothers Concord Volkswagen in Concord, CA.

A very short time later, Oakland PD picked up the homing signals from the VW with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked the stolen car to a downtown side street well known for illegal drug sales. Officers called for backup and stopped the Jetta.  Three occupants were arrested for auto theft and drug charges. The owner of the undamaged VW was thrilled to get his car back so quickly.
