LoJack Leads to One Arrest in Mexicali, Mexico — Chevrolet Tahoe Stolen in Calexico, CA Recovered

On the afternoon of January 10, 2012, the owner of a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe contacted the Calexio Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.
Calexio Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Tahoe’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Chevrolet and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Information about the stolen Tahoe and its LoJack code was relayed to the Baja California, Mexico Police authorities. A short time later, the Mexicali Ministerial Police Auto Theft unit began receiving the silent signal from the stolen vehicle on their onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The Agents ran the reply code that appeared on the PTC’s display screen and received information and a description of the stolen Tahoe. Following the tracking cues, the agents located the Tahoe in a commercial warehouse; after obtaining a search warrant, the agents entered the building and recovered the vehicle. One person was taken into custody by the State Ministerial Police, and will be placed at disposition of the Federal Attorney’s office in Mexicali for prosecution for possession of the California stolen vehicle. The California Highway Patrol Mexico liaison unit was informed of the case, and investigators from the Baja California State Auto Theft unit will continue the investigation.
The Tahoe was recovered intact and undamaged; it was stored pending release to the owner or insurance agent. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the vehicle in August of 2006.
