When does a friend staying overnight in your home turn from ‘guest’ to ‘pest’? One way is when they take your car without permission. This happened to a Redondo Beach, CA resident recently, when she noticed both her ‘friend’ and her Honda Accord were gone. It’s a good thing that the vehicle’s owner had the LoJack® system installed when she bought her Honda- so local law enforcement were able to retrieve it in only eight minutes after activation.

On June 25th, 2013, the victim contacted Redondo Beach Police to report that her Accord was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Accord, which was purchased at Scott Robinson Honda in Torrance, CA.

A very short time later, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Air 22 flight officers picked up the homing signal from the Honda on the tracking computer installed in their air units. The flight officers tracked the car moving in the area of 178th Street and Hawthorne Blvd., and contacted Redondo Beach PD. Patrol officers from RBPD stopped the Accord and the suspect was taken into custody. The Honda was soon returned to its very relieved owner.
