The California motorcycle dealership in this case figured it was safe to let a customer test drive a Suzuki GSX-R750 motorcycle- after all, he was leaving the car he drive up in as collateral. When the driver never returned, the folks at the dealership got a little worried- and they later found out that the car he left there was stolen as well. It’s a good thing that there was a LoJack® system installed on the Suzuki, so local law enforcement could locate the bike in just three minutes after activation.

On June 19th, 2013, the owners of a motorcycle dealership contacted Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department- Carson deputies to report that a Suzuki GSX-R750 had been stolen. The suspect had asked to test drive the bike and then taken off with it. Carson deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Suzuki, which was installed at San Diego House of Motorcycles in San Diego, CA.

A short while later, LASD Air-22 flight deputies picked up the homing signal from the stolen bike on the LoJack tracking computer installed on their airship. They tracked the GSX-R750 to Whittier and alerted ground units, who located the vehicle in the area of Pickering and Floral.  The suspect, a known gang member, took off but was quickly taken into custody.  The undamaged motorcycle was soon returned to the grateful dealer.
