If your car, truck, van or motorcycle is stolen, and the thief hides it inside a locked building, will it ever be recovered? Hiding the vehicle from sight may fool the naked eye, but not the LoJack® system. The Bakersfield, CA residents in this next case found out, to their relief, that even though the thief hid their Mercedes Benz C280, local police still got the signal from the Benz’s LoJack unit and were able to retrieve it undamaged.

On June 9th, 2013 the C280’s owner contacted Bakersfield Police to report that their vehicle had been stolen. Bakersfield PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers.  This automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Mercedes, which was installed at The House of Imports in Buena Park, CA.

A short while later, an investigator with KERNCAT, the Kern County Auto Theft Task Force, picked up the homing signals from the Mercedes on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his undercover vehicle. The investigator tracked the C280 to a closed and secured garage adjacent to an apartment complex in Bakersfield. The Mercedes was found intact and undamaged inside the garage. One suspect was arrested; another is being sought. The car was soon returned to its very relieved owners.
