The Bainbridge Island, WA residents in this case had to park their Porsche 911 Carrera outside overnight while their garage was being sheet-rocked and painted. Unfortunately, they also left the keys inside and when they woke up next morning, the vehicle was gone. Luckily, another thing inside the car was the LoJack® system, so local law enforcement was able to track the Porsche down, even though the thief tried to keep it hidden.

On June 13th, 2013, the 911’s owners called Bainbridge Island Police, who verified the theft and entered the VIN (vehicle identification number) into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Porsche, which was installed at Hoehn Porsche in Carlsbad, CA.

A short time later, a Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy received the homing signal transmitting from the 911 Carrera on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The deputy located the car on 26th Place South in Federal Way.  It was covered with a tarp to conceal its location, which would fool someone looking for the car, but not the signal sent by the LoJack unit.  The Porsche was recovered and soon returned to its very grateful owner.
