Ever left the keys in your car by mistake? It’s a pretty scary feeling. What feels even worse is when you go back to your vehicle to get them- and it’s gone. This BMW M5 owner did have one factor in his favor- he did have the LoJack® system installed in his car, to assist police in retrieving it as quickly as possible.

On May 18th, 2013, the M5’s owner discovered that his vehicle, in which he had mistakenly left the keys in the ignition, was stolen from a supermarket parking lot. He contacted Santa Clara, CA police, who verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the vehicle, which was installed at Valencia BMW in Valencia, CA.

A short while later, San Jose Police picked up the homing signals from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the stolen M5 to a commercial area in San Jose where it was abandoned and undamaged.  The BMW was soon returned to its grateful owner.
