Whether you’re dropping your car off to be repaired, filling up your tank at a self-service pump, or just parking in your driveway, it’s NEVER a good idea to leave the keys in it.  It only takes a few seconds for an observant thief to hop in and drive away. If you worry about this happening to you, remember that the LoJack® System is concealed inside your vehicle- it can’t be seen by any crook, no matter how good their vision is.

On April 8th, 2013, the Prince George’s County, Maryland Police Department received a call from the owner of a 2005 Infiniti QX56, stating that their vehicle was stolen when it was left unattended with the keys in the ignition. Prince George’s County PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Infiniti, which was installed at HBL United Auto Group in Vienna, VA.

After a short while, detectives in the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department auto theft unit picked up the homing signals from the Infiniti on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their vehicles. The detectives tracked the vehicle to the parking lot of Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, DC, where the QX56 was parked, unoccupied and undamaged. It was soon returned to its grateful owner.
