On November 10, 2012, the owner of a 2008 Toyota RAV4 contacted the Newark Police Department to report that her vehicle had been stolen from in front of her home in Newark, New Jersey. According to the owner, that morning, a repairman arrived at the house and informed the owner that there was a vehicle in the driveway – her boyfriend’s car – that had been broken into. This is when they noticed that the Toyota RAV4 was gone. While the police were still on scene, the owner also called the LoJack Customer Service Desk to advise LoJack of the theft.

The Newark Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the 2008 Toyota RAV4.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen RAV4 on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officer tracked the vehicle to Broad Street in the City of Newark, where the vehicle was recovered parked and undamaged.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2008 Toyota RAV4 on July 4, 2011 at Toyota Land in Springfield, New Jersey.
