On November 14, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Toyota Sienna called the New York Police Department’s 70th Precinct, in East Flatbush Brooklyn, New York to report that his Toyota was stolen from him. According to the owner, he had parked his vehicle outside of his home the night before, and accidentally dropped his keys on the sidewalk.

NYPD officers verified the theft, and had the Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers with the Brooklyn South Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Toyota on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle through various streets in the 67th and 69th Precinct, and into the 75th Precinct – the East New York Section of Brooklyn. There, they located the abandoned vehicle.

The officers decided to stake out the vehicle, but after some time had passed without any activity around the vehicle, they took it into custody. The vehicle was recovered in excellent condition, without any damage. The owner was notified, and was elated to learn that his vehicle was recovered so quickly.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2010 Toyota Sienna on November 1, 2009 at Hudson Toyota in Jersey City, New Jersey.
