John Deere Backhoe Stolen from Tracy Construction Site, Recovered by Tracy Police Using LoJack

On Monday, October 15, 2012, a construction crew returned to their work site in the City of Tracy and discovered that unknown suspect(s) had stolen a 2012 John Deere 410J Backhoe over the weekend. The Tracy Police were contacted and completed a theft report. The backhoe’s information was entered into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the national system, NCIC. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the backhoe. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Transponder because of LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Minutes later, officers with the Tracy Police Department began to receive the silent signal emitting from the now stolen backhoe. The officers then used their onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computers and the directional and signal strength cues they provide to track the signal. Several minutes later, officers tracked and located the backhoe on the south side of Tracy near the railroad tracks.
The backhoe, valued at approximately $115,000, was intact and United Rentals and the renter were contacted to retrieve the equipment.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the John Deere backhoe in February of 2012.
