On October 7, 2012, the owner of a Nissan Altima contacted the New York Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen while parked at their residence on Harding Park, located in the southeast section of the Bronx. NYPD’s 43rd Precinct verified the theft and entered the Nissan’s information into the state and federal crime computers (NYSPIN/ NCIC), which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers from NYPD’s Bronx Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Nissan on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked and located the unoccupied vehicle, parked on 184th Street & Crescent Avenue, in the confines of the Bronx’s 46th Precinct. The officers conducted surveillance on the vehicle for several hours; at that point, three men entered the Nissan. The officers surrounded the vehicle and immediately placed all three suspects under arrest. The undamaged vehicle was impounded as arrest evidence, and later released to a very happy owner.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Nissan Altima on March 14, 2003 at Cox Nissan located in the Bronx, New York.
