Kern County Deputies Use LoJack to Recover Chevrolet Van Stolen from Equipment Storage Yard

On August 31, 2012 the owner of a 2003 Chevrolet Express Van contacted the Kern County Sheriff’s Department to report that his vehicle had been stolen from his equipment storage yard. The Kern County Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the van.
A short while later, a deputy from the Kern County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Chevrolet on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the deputy tracked the vehicle to the 800 block of Monroe Court in Oildale. The vehicle was found abandoned, parked on the side of the road in a residential area.
The vehicle was recovered intact, but had sustained some minor body damage when the thieves used the vehicle to ram the storage yard gate when they stole the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle responded to the scene and took possession of his vehicle.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Chevrolet Express Van on November 3, 2005 in Los Angeles, California by a LoJack Technician.
