LoJack Aids LASD Deputies in Recovery of Stolen Honda Civic, Arrest of Suspect Asleep in Backseat

On August 29, 2012, the owner of a 2008 Honda Civic contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Temple Station to report the vehicle stolen. LASD verified the theft and entered the Honda’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
Minutes later, officers from three agencies had picked up the silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. A deputy from LASD’s Temple Station had picked up the signal in the area of Diamond Bar Boulevard and Golden Springs in the city of Pomona. He tracked the signal to the area of Valley Boulevard, east of the 57 Freeway, where he waited for back-up to arrive. With the backup in place, the deputies located the vehicle, parked on a cul de sac in the 400 block of Jansu Place in the city of Pomona. As they approached the vehicle, they observed a man sleeping in the backseat.
The suspect, who was from Arizona, was taken into custody without incident. He was later booked for PC 487(d) GTA and possession of burglary tools. The investigation into the suspect’s background and identity is continuing.
The vehicle, valued at $10,000, was quickly recovered. The owner of the Honda Civic had just purchased the vehicle, and had the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System installed just over one month earlier, in July of 2012 at Car Max in Duarte.
