NYPD Officers Use LoJack to Recover Mazda M3 Stolen from the Street in Manhattan

On August 21, 2012, the owner of a2007 Mazda M 3 contacted the New York Police Department’s 19th Precinct in Uptown Manhattan to report that her vehicle was stolen from the corner, where it was parked. The owner stated she was on vacation in New York, visiting friends, when her vehicle was stolen.
NYPD officers verified the theft and had the Mazda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
A short while later, officers from the Queens North Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Mazda on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residential street in the Elmhurst section of Queens, confines of the 115th Precinct. There, they found the vehicle parked on the street. They staked out the vehicle for several days; however, when no one returned for the car, they took it into custody.
The vehicle was recovered in excellent condition, without any damage. The owner was notified, and she was elated that her vehicle was recovered so quickly, especially with no damage. She further went on to say that investing in LoJack was the smartest thing she could have done.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2007 Mazda M 3 on January 4, 2007 at the Palm Beach Auto Mall in Palm Beach, Florida.
