Chop Shop Busted by LA County’s TRAP Team, LoJack-Equipped Stolen Chevy Silverado Recovered

On August 14, 2012, the owner of 2004 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Riverside Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen. Riverside Police verified the theft and entered the Chevrolet’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

Detectives with L.A. County’s TRAP, West Team picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Chevrolet on their portable Police Tracking Computers. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the detectives tracked and located the stolen vehicle, parked in the front yard of a residence in the area of Arminta Street and Reseda Boulevard.  The detectives received consent to search and recovered the stolen and partially-stripped Chevrolet Silverado. While conducting an investigation at the location, the detectives also located a stolen 2006 Hummer H2 and a 2003 Honda Racer Trailer. The suspect has been identified and the investigation is active. The case has been classified by detectives as a “Chop Shop” for LoJack Southern California Operations. The value of this recovery is estimated at $52,000.
