Lexus ES330 Stolen Overnight from Owner’s Garage, Recovered by Sacramento Police Using LoJack

On the morning of August 17, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Lexus ES330 awoke to discover that unknown person(s) had entered his garage and stolen his vehicle sometime during the previous night. He contacted the Lincoln Police Department, who verified the theft and had the vehicle’s information entered into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the national system, NCIC. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Transponder because of LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
A short while later, deputies with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department began to receive the silent signal emitting from the LoJack transponder on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and signal strength cues from the LoJack computers, they tracked and located the Lexus, parked and abandoned in a neighborhood near 39th Street and Mascot Avenue in South Sacramento. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping to be released to the owner later.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus ES330 in January of 2005 at Lexus of Sacramento.
