On August 4, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Dodge Charger contacted the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) to report that their vehicle was stolen from their driveway in Los Angeles.

The LAPD verified the theft and entered the Dodge’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short while later, officers with the LAPD’s Pacific Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle. They tracked the signal to the area of Venice and Sepulveda Boulevard. where they observed the vehicle parked and unoccupied. They requested back-up units and set up a surveillance of the stolen vehicle. They then observed one female suspect drive the vehicle away, followed by another vehicle being driven by one male suspect. As the officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, the male driver in the second vehicle attempted to block the officers. Both suspects were eventually taken into custody and arrested for 10851 VC (Driving without Owners Consent). The female suspect had the keys to the stolen Dodge.

The vehicle, valued at $14,075, was recovered in good condition.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Dodge Charger on May 23, 2007 at South Bay Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge in Torrance, CA.
