On Wednesday morning, July 11, 2012, the owner of a 2001 White Toyota 4-Runner sport utility vehicle contacted the Hollywood Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from his residence. Hollywood Police verified the theft and had the 4-Runner’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the SUV.

A short while later, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Toyota on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking computer (PTC), while conducting a crash investigation on I-95. As he couldn’t leave to track the stolen 4-Runner, he issued a “Be on the Lookout” alert for the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, a Hallandale Beach Police Department officer also picked up the signal. Following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screens, the officer, along with backup, located the vehicle abandoned in a field, in the 800 block of N.W. 4th Terrace, Hallandale Beach, Florida. The vehicle was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2001 White Toyota 4-Runner sport utility vehicle on May 10, 2001 at Toyota of Hollywood in Hollywood, Florida and has been protecting it ever since.
