Multiple LA Area Police Units Locate Stolen Ford Pickup; Suspect Arrested by K-9 Officer After Fleeing

On June 13, 2012, the owners of a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck contacted the Seal Beach Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence out of the city of Seal Beach. The Seal Beach officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the truck.
A short while later, LAPD Harbor Division officers picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Ford on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicle. While tracking the LoJack signal, the officers received information from LASD Air-24 that they were following the vehicle along with a California Highway Patrol unit. Air-24 directed the ground units to the 1300 block of 6th Street, where they observed one male suspect driving the stolen vehicle. The suspect stopped the vehicle and quickly fled on foot with the officers close behind. The suspect crawled through a drainage ditch into a heavy brush area. A LAPD Metropolitan Division K-9 unit responded to the location. Within a short time, the K-9 unit located and apprehended the suspect. The suspect was arrested for Driving without Owners Consent. The vehicle was recovered undamaged and the ignition was punched. The vehicle is valued at $22,500.
