LoJack System Helps Alameda County Sheriff’s Department Recover Stolen Toyota Corolla Taken in Armed Car-Jacking

The owners of a 2019 Toyota
Corolla contacted the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department to report that their
vehicle had been stolen. The owners
advised that they were on 159th Avenue in unincorporated San
Leandro, when they were approached by a subject armed with a knife who demanded
their vehicle. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and
federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2019 Toyota Corolla.
A short while later a deputie with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department,
along with officers from the San Leandro Police Department were alerted to the
stolen Toyota Corolla by means of the silent LoJack signal from the stolen
vehicle with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in
patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following
the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen Toyota was tracked to
a parking lot of a hotel on Lewelling Boulevard and Embers Way. The vehicle was found to be abandoned. Hotel security video is being reviewed in hopes
of identifying the suspect.
The stolen Toyota Corolla was recovered by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department and was towed/stored to be processed for forensic evidence before being returned to the owner.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2019 Toyota Corolla in July 2018, at Livermore Toyota, in Livermore, CA.
