A short while later, the flight crew of a Kern County Sheriff’s Department helicopter picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Chevrolet on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the flight crew tracked the vehicle to the vicinity of the 800 block of 30th Street in Bakersfield. LoJack-equipped ground units from the Bakersfield Police Department converged upon the area and quickly located the vehicle parked on the street.
Officers made contact with a male adult that was seen walking away from the vehicle. During the questioning, the male admitted involvement in the vehicle theft. He was arrested for possession of stolen property and vehicle theft.
The vehicle was recovered intact and undamaged; it was released to the owner at the recovery scene.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe in December of 2004 at the Rydell Auto Group in Northridge, California. This vehicle is valued at $17,700.
