LASD Deputies Using LoJack Recover Stolen Yamaha Motorcycle

On June 12, 2012, the owners of a 2007 Yamaha YZF-R-6 motor cycle contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Norwalk Department to report their vehicle stolen. LASD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

Within minutes of activation, LASD deputies on the ground and air began receiving the silent LoJack signal from the stolen motorcycle on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. Following the directional and audible signals on the LoJack computers, the deputies tracked the motorcycle to a residential area on Ramsey Drive in the city of Norwalk. There, they located the motorcycle, parked behind a residence. Deputies were able to recover the motorcycle with only minor ignition damage. The owner of the motorcycle responded to the scene to retrieve the stolen Yamaha. The owner valued his motorcycle at $6,500.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Yamaha in May of 2008.
