Chevrolet Silverado Stolen for 2nd Time, Recovered Undamaged by South Gate Police

On May 30, 2012, the owners of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the South Gate Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. South Gate officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Chevrolet.
Minutes later, officers from the South Gate Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Chevrolet on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to the area of Duane Way and Gabriel Avenue. Officers then observed the stolen vehicle traveling southbound on San Luis Avenue. When back-up units arrived, the officers conducted a traffic stop and took the suspect into custody without incident.
The suspect had cold-plated the vehicle. The suspect had a black key with an alarm control in his possession. Officers found no damage to the ignition, but several keys were able to start the vehicle. The vehicle was recovered undamaged and released to the owner.
This is the second time this vehicle was stolen, and then recovered by police using LoJack. The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this vehicle in May of 2003 at Power Chevrolet, in the City of El Monte.
