LoJack® System Helps Los Angeles Police Department Recover Stolen (Mini Cooper)

The owners of a (2008 Mini Cooper) contacted the LAPD Pacific Division to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mini Cooper.
A short while later officers from the LAPD Southwest Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mini Cooper with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. The officers then requested an air support unit to assist with the tracking. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the airship tracked the vehicle to a recycle center at Western Ave and Jefferson Blvd. The airship notified the officers that the vehicle matching the description had just pulled out and they were following the vehicle on Western Ave. The ground officers were directed to that area and observed the white Mini Cooper containing one male and one female. They continued following the vehicle as the airship called out the direction of travel. The Mini Cooper eventually pulled into a residential driveway in the 26oo block of Manhattan Pl. where a “felony high risk” stop was initiated. Both subjects were detained without further incident. During the field investigation the officers were told that the driver was given the vehicle by a friend, however was unable to provide confirming information. Both suspects were taken to the Southwest Division where it was determined that the driver would be booked for the theft of the vehicle as well as an outstanding felony warrant. The female was released at that time. Case was referred to station detectives.
The LoJack® System was installed in the (Mini Cooper) in August 2008 at Bob Smith BMW/Mini, Calabasas, CA.
