LoJack System Helps the North Charleston Police Department Recover Stolen Toyota Avalon

In November 2018, the owner of a 2000 Toyota Avalon contacted the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, North Charleston, SC to report that their vehicle had been stolen from the driveway of the residence.  The vehicle was left running unattended and an unknown suspect drove from the scene. The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

After the vehicle was entered into the National Crime Computer Database, an Officer from the North Charleston Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Officer tracked the vehicle and located it abandoned in a wooded area near a church a little over a half of a mile from the theft scene.  A Deputy from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to the scene to process the recovered vehicle for forensic evidence.  Since it had been driven back into a wooded area, the vehicle was damaged and was towed from scene.  This case remains an active and ongoing investigation.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Avalon in September 2009 through Direct Sales.
