LoJack® System Helps Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Recover a Stolen Re-Tagged Dodge Challenger

The owner of a 2016 Dodge Challenger contacted the Kenner Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen. The owner advised he loaned the Challenger to a friend but she had not returned it yet. The Kenner PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge Challenger.
Shortly after the activation, deputies with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the silent and directional cues from the PTC, the Dodge was tracked and located. However, deputies discovered the Challenger’s public vehicle identification number and license plate did not match the stolen vehicle entry. An auto theft detective was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
The highly trained auto theft detective immediately suspected the Challenger had an altered VIN also known as a “re-tagged” vehicle. The detective conducted an inspection with the Challenger and identified it via secondary means. The detective determined this was in fact the stolen Challenger out of Kenner PD. The detective advised if it was not for LoJack this Challenger might have gone on with the false identity without recovery. The Challenger was recovered and returned back to its owner.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Challenger in September 2016 at Premier Chrysler Jeep Dodge in New Orleans, Louisiana.
