Ventura County Officers Using LoJack Recover Stolen BMW, Arrest 2 Suspects

On the afternoon of May 28, 2012, the owner of a 2001 BMW 740i contacted the Ventura County Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. After verifying the theft, Ventura County officers had the BMW’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
A short time later, California Highway Patrol officers and deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department began to receive the BMW’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their police vehicles. Following the directional and audible signal on the LoJack Trackers, the flight crew tracked the Volvo to the 3000 block of Darlington Drive in the city of Thousand Oaks. There, they located the stolen vehicle, parked in a residential area. The officers established surveillance on the vehicle, and after a brief period, two suspects entered the BMW and drove away. The officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and took the suspects into custody without incident. Detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department are handling the ongoing investigation.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the BMW at the owner’s request in August of 2006.
