The owner of a car dealership contacted the Merced Police Department to report that a 2016 Ford Mustang GT had been stolen from the business. The owner advised that an unknown person had stolen the keys to the vehicle and returned when the business was closed and taken the vehicle. The Merced Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2016 Ford Mustang.

A short time later, a San Leandro PD officer was alerted to the stolen Mustang by means of the silent LoJack signal from the stolen vehicle with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the stolen vehicle was tracked and was found parked in the parking lot of a large outlet mall on Marina Boulevard at Teagarden Street. Surveillance was conducted and a male was observed exiting a store and entering the front passenger seat of the stolen Mustang. As officers moved in, the suspect exited and attempted to walk away but was quickly apprehended.  A female was found in the rear seat and was taken into custody.  As officers approached the store the suspect had exited, a third suspect walked out and was taken into custody.  He was found to be in possession of the key fob for the stolen Mustang.  The 2 male suspects were found to be wearing stolen clothing with the security tags still attached. A search of the vehicle revealed numerous items of stolen clothing from stores in the mall.

The Mustang was recovered by San Leandro PD and was towed/stored to be returned to the owner. The LoJack® System was installed in the 2016 Ford Mustang, in July of 2018 at Ron Smith Buick GMC in Merced, CA.
