The owner of a 1999 Toyota 4 Runner contacted the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department to report their vehicle stolen. The owner advised the vehicle taken from in front of their residence in the overnight hours, in the unincorporated area of San Lorenzo. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 1999 Toyota 4 Runner.

A short time later, the Oakland Police Department’s Helicopter (ARGUS) was patrolling the city near the San Leandro border, when they alerted to the stolen Toyota 4 Runner by means of the silent LoJack signal from the stolen vehicle by means of the Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Argus tracked the stolen Toyota by following the directional and audible cues from the PTC to an apartment complex parking lot at Creekside Drive and Sweetwater Drive in the city of San Leandro. A San Leandro Police Department ground patrol unit responded to the location and confirmed the stolen Toyota was unoccupied.

San Leandro PD officers recovered the undamaged, stolen Toyota 4 Runner. The stolen Toyota towed/stored for safekeeping for return to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 1999 Toyota 4 Runner in July 1999, at Frontier Toyota, in Valencia, CA.
