The owners of a 2017 Dodge Challenger (a car dealership) contacted the Yuba City Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The victim stated the Dodge Challenger was rented to a customer. The customer later broke the rental agreement and refused to return the Dodge. After exhausting all avenues to locate the Dodge and sending demand letters to the address the renter provided, which turned out to be bogus, the dealership reported the Dodge stolen.

The Yuba City PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge.

A short while later officers from the California Highway Patrol Air Operations, Air 23, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Dodge to a residential area in the community of Olivehurst. The Air unit was never able to visually locate the Dodge. Being low on fuel and the late hour, the officers passed the information on for the next shift to follow up. That morning with the assistance of LoJack, officers tracked the Dodge to a closed garage in 2000 block of Waterville Dr in Olivehurst. The LoJack PTC’s determined the Dodge was in a specific residential garage. Officers knocked on the residence door and no one responded. It was determined a search warrant would be needed to enter the garage and recover the Dodge.

Minutes later a female opened the garage door and exited the residence. The stolen Dodge was observed and recovered. The female was interviewed and released. A warrant is being sought for the male suspect/renter.

The dealership responded and took possession of their now recovered Dodge.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Challenger in November 2016 at John L. Sullivan Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Yuba City, California.
