The owners of a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Port Hueneme Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers from the Port Hueneme PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Silverado.

A short while later a vehicle theft detective from the Oxnard Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the detective assisted by other Oxnard PD officers tracked the Chevrolet to the 2550 north Ventura Road and contacted the lone male sitting in the driver’s seat. He was taken into custody without further incident. During the search of the Chevrolet the officers located a loaded sawed off shot gun stuck between the driver’s seat and center console as well as multiple shot gun rounds on the suspect and inside a back pack. According to the detective, the suspect was on formal probation and was ordered not to possess any weapons. The suspect was booked for the vehicle theft and the weapon charges. The Chevrolet was later returned to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado in January 2002 at Connell Chevrolet in Costa Mesa, California.
