The owners of a 2001 Nissan Frontier contacted the Long Beach Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen by unknown suspects. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan Frontier.

Minutes later the Los Angeles Police Department Air-3 Flight Officers picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan at 60th and Broadway. They radioed ground units to respond to an alley between 60th between Main St and Broadway as they had spotted the Nissan parked and unoccupied. Officers from the Newton Division Narcotic Enforcement Detail responded and set up surveillance. Within a few minutes they observed a male enter and drive off. The officers followed waiting for back up and air support when the Nissan stopped under trees. The suspect driver was observed fleeing the Nissan and was subsequently ordered by the helicopter to stop and give up. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and booked for the theft of the Nissan. The detectives noted that the suspect had previous convictions of the same offense and operating a chop shop.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Frontier in June 2001 at Nissan of Long Beach in California.
