LoJack System Helps Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force Recover Stolen Honda Civic

The owner of a Honda Civic recently discovered that the vehicle had had been stolen from the parking spot in Telford. The Honda owner called 911 and police radio dispatched a uniformed officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the complainant and then surveyed the area for the Honda. When the officer was unable to locate the Honda a stolen vehicle report was prepared and arrangements were made to have the stolen vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.
The members of the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force monitor any and all stolen vehicle activity in and around their jurisdiction. The supervisor of this unit became aware that a LoJack stolen vehicle activity had been reported in the Lehigh County area. The supervisor alerted the investigators assigned to the unit and the highly trained auto theft investigators fanned out across the area in undercover police vehicles which are equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC’s). Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the auto theft investigator tracked the signal to the area of Turner Street in Allentown. The investigator observed the parked Honda and cautiously approached same to discover that the vehicle was unoccupied. The stolen Honda was placed under surveillance for a short time with negative results. The investigators confiscated the Honda for investigation and safekeeping and the Telford Police Department were advised that the vehicle had been recovered.
This incident remains under investigation by the members of the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force.
