The owner of a 2012 Toyota Prius contacted the Palm Springs Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen in the city of Palm Springs.

The Palm Springs PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

At a later time, investigators from the Riverside Auto Theft Interdiction Detail picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the investigators tracked the Toyota to the area of Palm Canyon in the city of Palm Springs.

The Toyota was previously reported stolen, tracked and recovered by the San Diego Police Department in 2014.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Prius in September 2012 at Toyota of Chula Vista in California.
