LoJack System Helps Los Angeles Police Department Recover Stolen Ford Econoline

The owner of a 2005 Ford Econoline contacted the Los Angeles Police Department West LA Division to report that his vehicle was stolen. Further it contained his tools of his trade. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford Econoline.

A short while later officers from the LAPD Newton Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford Econoline with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Ford to Gage Ave and Broadway Pl where they located the vehicle eastbound on Gage Ave.  They followed the Ford and confirmed it was stolen.  The officers conducted a felony traffic stop at 67th and Mettler Ave taking the suspect into custody without further incident.  During the field investigation, they noted a “shaved key” was in the ignition and also discovered a ring of “shaved keys” commonly used by car thieves inside the Ford.  The suspect was arrested and booked for the theft of the Ford.  All property belonging to the victim were recovered and later released to the victim.  Case has been sent to detectives.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford Econoline in March 2006 at Buerge Motors in West Los Angeles, California.
