The owners of a 2004 Mazda RX8 contacted the Tucson Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen with the keys by a homeless person they knew.

The Tucson PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mazda.

Twenty seven minutes later, officers from the Tucson PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mazda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the officers tracked the Mazda to a neighborhood in the area of Alturas Street and Castro Avenue.

The Tucson PD officers located the stolen Mazda occupied and arrested two male suspects without incident.  The suspect identified by the victim was not with the Mazda.  One of the suspects admitted to knowing the Mazda was stolen and also had valid felony warrants for his arrest.  The suspect was booked for vehicle theft and the felony warrants.  The Mazda was recovered in good condition and returned to the owners.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mazda RX8 in September 2003 at Galpin Mazda in Van Nuys, California.
